Company History
Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. was incorporated in February 1970 pursuant to the B.C. Company Act. Operations commenced in 1971, and since that time the company has concentrated on the exploration and development of past-producing gold properties which in 2000 led to the discovery of the recently permitted Bonanza Ledge open pit mine.In October 1994, management entered into an agreement to earn a 50% interest in the Cariboo Gold Quartz Property (CGQ), a former underground gold mine (1933-1959), located in the Cariboo Mountains in East -central British Columbia. The property is comprised of 64 crown-granted mineral claims located near the town of Wells, 6 Kilometers northwest of Barkerville Historic Town. The company assumed the role of operator and began exploration in May 1995.
The discovery of Bonanza Ledge in the year 2000 highlighted the exploration potential of significant areas of the mineral tenure that are proximal to past gold producing properties yet remain largely unexplored.
On February 1, 2010 the Company acquired the QR MIne and MIll that includes a 900 tonne/day gold milling facility and a permitted gold mine located approximately 110 kilometers by highway and all weather road from Wells. Mining operations commenced at QR in the spring 2010.
In September 2010, Barkerville became Canada's newest gold producer pouring its first gold dore bar at the QR Mine.
In November 2010, Barkerville purchased the Gold Stream Mill and all associated assets.
In December 2011, the company received provincial government approval to develop the Bonanza Ledge open pit mine. Mining operations will commence upon all conditions under the permits being completed including the tailings processing at the company's QR Mill.
